Novelist and Author

USA Today Bestselling author, Noree Cosper loves writing about magic in the modern world. While growing up in Texas she constantly searched for mystical elements in the mundane. She buried her nose in both fiction and books about Wicca, Religion, and Mythology. Everyday became an adventure as she joined a group of role-players, acting out her fantasies of vampires, demons, and monsters living in the world-- she embraced her nerdom wholeheartedly.

Noree grew, but never left her love for fantasy and horror. Her dreams pushed her and her hand itched to write the visions she saw. So, with her fingers on the keys, she did what her heart had been telling her to do since childhood. She wrote.

Noree's first published novel was award the B.R.A.G. Medallion from IndieBRAG as well as Reader's Choice Award for Horror from the Blogger Book Fair.

Nocturnal Embers

Love and Honor: When a series of murders spark tensions between two rival werewolf packs, Lovissa finds accusing fingers pointed at her. Can she find the true culprit before an all-out war ignites?

Rupert Shaw. The name may strike you as remarkable, or not. It might conjure expectations of the person who answers to it, in which case you'll no doubt be surprised.

Or, perhaps you've heard of him.

If you have, you are most likely a vampire. Humans who know the name have limited lifespans or are in his employ (in which case you have not heard of Rupert Shaw, the vampire who rules over San Francisco – not if you want to keep your potential lifespan intact).

But if you've heard of Nocturnal Embers, you certainly know him. It's even possible that you've seen him on the occasions you visited the establishment. Of course, you'd also know that discussing what goes on at Nocturnal Embers beyond its walls is a quick invitation to possessing gaps in your memory – if you're one of the lucky ones.

What it is can't fully be captured in words, anyway. It needs to be experienced.

So if you're ever in San Francisco, in the neighborhood of the Transamerica Pyramid, keep your eyes open. Down one of the narrow streets, among the shops and nightclubs, its entrance unassuming, is Nocturnal Embers.

And on the other side of the door?

...

What were we talking about?

The sky shifted to a reddish hue, and a giant eye opened up in the center. Its yellow iris pulsed and the pupil thinned at the eye rotated to scan the courtyard. My stomach twisted and jerked as goose pimples flared along my back. The closet tower was still a good twenty feet away from me. I would never make it without this thing seeing me. I glanced back at the blizzard. It was closer, but I had a feeling I would have to find my way all over again if I went back.

“Most of the time, but he’s known to take some under his wing.” The clouds voice had a tone took on a nonchalance. “Maybe you’ll be special or something.”

“Why do you say that?”

“He already helped you out. Or he’s like a drug dealer. Your first dose is free.” Frequency chuckled. “I mean he does look like a mafia gangster.”

“You look lost.” Cosmos’s soft voice traveled on the air along with the warm desert heat.

He slid down from one of the dunes behind me and moved to where the water lapped close to his feet. The stars reflected in his shades. I glanced away when I caught myself staring at the curve of his lips. What was I thinking? He probably didn’t even look like this in real life.

“Nice Avatar.” He looked me up with a quirk of his lip.

“Thanks. And I’m not lost.” I said. “Just debating on which direction I want to go.”

“Usually, it’s best to have a destination in mind here.” His chuckle sent a delectable shiver down my spine. “You can easily get lost.”

“Maybe I want to get lost,” I said. “That’s half of the fun.”

“It sounds like you’re running away from something.”

“What better place to run?” My voice barely raised above a whisper.

“What?”

His dark red coat ruffled in the wind as he spread his arms wide. “RiftSpace. That’s what we tend to call this virtual representation of the internet.”

I stood up and looked across the sea as we floated along. Waves of ones and zeros rippled to the horizon in all directions. Above us, the tiny binary twinkled like fake stars. I staggered as my vision swirled and my head swam. I’d had enough swimming of any kind for today.  My rescuer stepped forward to put his hands on my shoulders and the spicy scent of cinnamon mixed with warm woody and floral aromas I didn’t recognize.

A shadow passed over me, blocking out the dying light for a breath’s time. I turned, shading my eyes with my hand and gulped at the creature hovering in the air above me. It had the head and body of a lion with large bat like wings extending from behind its shoulder blades. Two rams horns rose up from the golden mane that crowned its head and a scorpion tail whipped back and forth in the air behind it.

“A manticore?” I croaked out. “Whoever created this must be a hardcore fantasy fan.”

With a roar that overtook any other noise, the manticore flapped up and swooped down in a dive bomb aimed directly at me.

Here we go:

My mother named me Serenity to bring peace into her life. It didn't work out for either of us. That fact remained evident as she tossed the checkers board at my face with an ear piercing screech that bounced off of the eggshell white walls of Santa Rosa’s common room. I shoved my chair back from the oak table and hopped to my feet. Her mahogany hair slid over once her hazel eyes as she glared at me with her hands balled into fists around her t-shirt.
